Though it really is too simply to verify, and embassy should consider doing that. Being practical or efficient, isn't a gov't agency trait anyone expects.

I'd rather try and live on the basic UK pension here, than try to do it in the UK.Flyin' High wrote:Yes, I'm all for that part.
Those not making ฿40k a month should seriously reconsider leaving the safety net of their home country.

Agree, unless having health issues or not having a oops fund, in case of an oops. Then that NHS might come in handy.
Too many skint foreigners stiffing the hospitals for unpaid bills, reflects on the rest of us. Probably the reason why they are doing away with the income statements. The few, screw the rest with their irresponsible behavior.
Got to wonder how many retirees, stiffed a hospital, or crapped out with outstanding bills, and no funds to be found, though stating 800k a year income.
All for the tighter restrictions, even though a bit of a hassle. Know a couple Brits that had already left, anticipating tighter scrutiny of their income, along with back to back visa runs clamped down.

Re: Yanks joining the Brits.....NO INCOME AFFIDAVITS
the embassy never "verified" any income ever. The Income Affidavit is purely a sworn statement from the expat attesting to the income the expat puts into the letter. The embassy merely was notarizing the expat's sworn statement for $50.. Any other document requiring a notary impress and signature costs exactly the same. As for the Embassy folks "making money" nope, all those consular fees in their billions (and it is billions world-wide) goes back to the big kitty in Washington where part is to pay for all consular operations to include staff salaries, part goes into a special fund for Consular info technology, part goes to Diplomatic Security for any Consular security issues to include site hardening and visa fraud investigations, and well over a billion is given back to the U.S. Treasury.. A cash cow overall. So, even if they "lose" up to $500,000 annually in "notarial fees" for income affidavits t'is but a drop in the bucket.. The change seems coordinated with the Brits announcement ceasing the same support earlier this year.. You'd have to wonder if the Thai government was pushing them to stop doing it..

You really don't know who to believe. Kind of sad.
Is the post believable, or the Embassies, or Thai official (UT IO).
I'll be asking myself in HH on Tuesday, prepping for renewal in Feb. Will a deposit of 400k in bank on Wednesday, 3+ months prior to renewal be enough for changing from Retirement to Marriage Visa, or should I not bother, and simply get the income statement. Either way, doesn't matter to me, both are as convenient or inconvenient. Letter actually easiest for me, at this time.

Visited Udon Immigration last Thursday and they told me that this has nothing to do with the Thai Government or the Thai Immigration and they are happy to receive these income letters from the British and US Embassies. They have reported this matter to the Head of Immigration in Bangkok and told me something will be sorted out the beginning of next year.British and US Embassy informing citizens a pack of lies. Many expats rely on these letters so I hope they can sort this out pronto.

Maybe old info but from udonnews
http://udon-news.com/en/law/non-immigra ... avannakhet" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Just means crossing border every 90 days once visa obtained
Always thought this option was never official just a good money earner for the consulate, maybe best for most people choose 400k marriage and houseclean your home as photos needed re living room, bedroom etc

Re: Yanks joining the Brits.....NO INCOME AFFIDAVITS
That was my experience with getting multiple entry -0- non imm. visa (marriage and support of Thai national, after 1st divorce), and no financials required. From USA consular, and 14 years ago, for the last one, support Thai national.
Did require the 90 day exit / reenter, but good for a year. So 3 trips a year, to restock Bailey's, as at the time, quite expensive here.
