also notice a difference in same menu items at various venues, and not simply their version. from 'I wouldn't feed it to the soi dog', to 'damn tasty', and usually 10-20 % more in cost, if any, but well worth it. hoping they take their hygiene a bit further also, if concerned about a better meal offering. one can only hope. ++)(*

Agree with cali. Big difference in food quality at various restaurants for the same dish. Thai people know where to go for what. My wife is Thai. She knows. Makes it easy for me. Well, pretty easy. The wife will get a hankering for something and will drive clear across town to buy it at a particular restaurant. The same food is available much closer but she won't have it. I've learned that time, distance and available parking is not much of a consideration for Thais.

i actually find a world of difference, an unbelievable variety in the quality and quantity of thai food you get
at different locations? take the simple chicken with rice ( khao - mun - gai ) there is a shop near where i live
and their offerings are downright foul? :lol: bits of bone and gristle in the meat (what little meat they give you)
in contrast, the food park at the central gives you a heaping pile of (boneless)rice and chicken for 35-40 baht a plate.
the food park also has a killer (khao - moo- daeng) rice with red pork and sauce shop and i noticed just yesterday
a pad-thai shop next to it i want to try. now i don't mind if shops charge more than standard if they give you a pile
of food and good quality, what i can't stand is tiny little baby portions with a few giblets or scraps of meat and then
trying to charge and pass that off as "standard fare". and then there are the other facets of running a restaurant,
are the staff consistently friendly and civil? or have you got a bunch of people grumbling under their breath? i welcome
notices and reviews of new places because in my humble view, their are many ordinary shops and few really good ones.

Locating a good Thai resturant in Udon is like trying to find a good Italian resturant in Italy, a good German resturant in Germany. a good Mexican resturant in Mexico, etc, etc, For 30-40 baht for a bowl of noodles you will get the same all over Thailand

Forgot to mention, the shop to the right is an internet & coffee joint that is also part of the restaurant.
