i too went this week, and was surprised to see the price increase but no increase in dishes... now i think i would rather look around as its no longer a bargain!! theres a 75 baht thai buffet near the bus station that is very popular with thais, we went i basically got 75bahts worth of "food" but the wife loved it!!

Sampled the upstairs / outdoors dining area last night, a pleasant experience, though better planning would have provided a bit more ambience. They had a loud morlam affair across the street, and a bit intrusive, if allowing it to bother you. As
usual, too loud, as when leaving, noticed a live musician at restaurant, and didn’t even realize he was there, as my back was toward him. I was thinking that being up so high, would eliminate completely, any traffic noises, but before the affair at the park got started, I could still hear mb’s and tuk tuks going by, a bit surprising, though a bit of background music would drown them out. We did arrive 6 ish, and leaving about 8 ish.

Barring that, a fine night. Food had good flavor, though lacking a bit of substance. Was not overpriced, though top end of the udon market, and if having a bit more substance, would have been a decent value for the venue.

We sampled Tom Kha Gai, Yellow Curry Squid, Spicy soup, and the Club Sandwich (Ree’s choice).. Think all were 120 ish baht. I had a glass of house white, 150, along with sherbet, 45, afterwards.

Main question, would we return, and that got a unanimous no, nothing negative, but also nothing positive enough to warrant a return. My favorite venue by the other lake would have been more rewarding and just as lovely ambience. IMHO.

Menu starts at about 80 ish baht for fried rice dishes, and 250 ish for fish and seafood, and I think topping out at 350 /
450 for eye steak / T-bone, if a risk taker. Was tempted, but always disappointed, so took my own advice and passed that idea.

Was a nice change, maybe a special event, or sample once, to see if it’s for you? Not overpriced and maybe some other entrees were a better value. VAT and service charge is included in bill, though change was provided, tempting one to tip, and if service would of warranted that, maybe a bit more left on the table. Service was courteous and prompt, until food was served, that a bit scant. Empty when we arrived, and 2 other tables occupied when we left, with a couple more arriving. Maybe people waiting till the 14th to indulge. They did give us a Valentine’s Day flyer, 1999 baht for food and drinks for 2, so not too bad, since saying drinks instead of ‘a’ drink. 2 people could do 1000 baht just on wine, though not really complimenting Thai food. A rather good white though.

Being my usual doubting self, I would say that drinks for 2 would mean a drink for each with a selection of tea, coffee, juice or sodas. You'll be blessed if you get free refills, and if you're thinking alcohol is included then we're talking a major miracle. I could be wrong since I'm only guessing, but chances are I'm correct.

I called up a few days back to inquire about the Valentine's Day bash, and when I was told 1999 for two for just the dinner I nearly fell out of my chair. I asked if that included a room as well, and when I got the giggly "no" I simply hung up without any further inquiry.

1999 baht for 2 with drinks is not all that expensive, $33 usd each. If you really love her you wouldn't hesitate to spend the money. What's the going bar fine in Pattaya or Bangkok along with the tip in the morning?

wouldn't be a value for me either, as not a drinker....anymore. though a couple properly made long island ice teas would be nice. guessing like you, 2 drinks..... .. :lol:

still puts the meals way over 500 baht... *****

If you're talking "boom boom", then I get that for free anyway. If you're talking a nice romantic evening out for your wife or gf because you love her and want to demonstrate that love in a special way on Valentine's, then for me it boils down to a matter of available options and value for one's money. The new Paradise Hotel has a Valentine's Day dinner by the poolside with band/dancing for (I believe) 350 baht each. I visited the poolside there the other evening and observed a party going on for a university graduating class, and I must say I was thoroughly impressed with the ambiance, the presentation and the service.

the Paradise has been making quite and effort lately, good for them, not sure how successful, but have to give them credit for the apparent effort.

I have just had a look at Paradise Hotel's website. No mention of a Valentines do, no phone number and no e-mail address. Looks like a nice place though.

Cheap Charlie, all of you take the prize, spend some money on your lady. There is no such thing as free boom boom blacksheep, it always cost something, either up front or at the end. Married?? That's the most costly boom boom there is. Value for your money??? Just maybe she thinks the same way
