merchant seaman wrote:I can not understand what's the big deal about walking through Nutty Park with your wife or girlfriend? Most likely more perverts and hookers hanging out in the night market. Surely they see worse on the Thai Soaps.
if youre talking to local thai person and subject of soi sampan comes up, they will almost always twist
their face up and say they dont like it .... or worse. with no discernable reason for their impressions
other than local tales, myths, fables about horrible farangs and their drinking :?:whyive come to agree with
those who say " they really just dont want it in center of downtown" :worried: and with the incessant police
checkpoints in environs, probably more favorable locations elsewhere
are you talking to me? i don't see anybody else here? are you talking to me?

I simply avoid vendors that don't have parking. Usually hit sis's at the preecha night market before 4:30PM, as usually a parking spot before 6 pm on Fridays. If Saturday, we park before 4 pm, though sis isn't ready to serve food yet, and we'll stroll around, and already at that time, parking at CenterPoint and UD Town is scarce, as vendors rented out the official parking, and are themselves parked in 1st line, then 2nd lines have already started.

We arrive after picking the little one up from school, so always early, and traffic is fairly gridlock from 5 onward. If arriving later, rare, I've parked at IT/Nevada before, and strolled out the front door, when going to night market later than 5 PM, have parked in NP, and walked thru and out the non-driveway entrance. Though almost feel guilty when doing that. But I've gotten ribs and not parked there as many times as parking and not been a customer, so it's a wash. I think if you walk out the driveway, they ask you for 20 baht, I may be wrong, but I think that lot may fill up with non customers, as not very big. Haven't done that in couple years, and it was always void of customers, but looks much busier now when driving by.

Soi slum/sleaze/sampham is hard enough to drive down, let alone park. top mansion parking lot used to be an option long time ago, but no longer, when street was full. driving down in the day and the 'legal' side is always full, with most of the other taken up. easier to to drive down the street parallel to RR tracks.

We simply avoid downtown after school. Not bad for a very late lunch, and a bit of shopping, running chores before picking up little one, but then it's straight home usually, except on Saturday or a rare Friday night. Plenty of locals on scooters to keep the economy going, don't think we are missed...

definitely a food town though, as a few streets lined with vendors for take away, adding to a bit of congestion behind the prison. NPJ Park area packs them in, along with Walking Street on the week-end. Amazing Chaeronsri Night Plaza flopped so fast, as you would think just the overflow from those would keep them going, but that was one badly designed plan. Should of been all food vendors instead of the crap shops that gave it a go.

even that little beer garden off to the end of preecha / near carrot shop looks relaxing. as busy
as the UD beer plaza has gotten , drawing off much clientele. 30-40 serving lasses outfitted in tasteful
evening wear. and
then you venture over soi sampan, ladyboys popping out of bars squawking like jack-in-the-boxes
fukin scary. im guessing they dont hassle thai males at drinking venues, cause theyd get stomped :!:

very comfy, and they could use the business, as still hasn't caught on to much. slowly see more and more customers there, but nothing like when the big guy ran it. decent parking, the vid screen / music isn't too loud.

Ralph organized one of the monthly meets there, and they were very accommodating. decent selection of food in the area, plug plug, and not the madhouse of UD Town. with cooler temps at night, quite pleasant.

you go over there all the time beatus. ive always felt preecha was sort of where the regular
people went, and there certainly are seating vacancies at the old meetup area.whereas the
udtown crowd is waving their smartphones in air and modeling the latest cocktail dresses.
its the new money crowd for sure. what is the legal drinking age, those kids look awfully young :-?

there is no legal drinking age, just 'purchase age'......... ++)(*

we get there at least monthly, if not weekly. usually Friday or Saturday, depending how lazy we are and what's in the frig. Think we're getting bored with the frig lately, and due to pop in. Friday works out best, as we don't have to kill too much time, school out at 4 PM, instead of 3pm on saturdays.

Maybe pop over tomorrow, you game...........5 ish PM.

The market and beer garden itself was never a problem, it's the congestion at meet times, 7 ish that was the killer of meeting there.
