yes, my thoughts exactly. does defeat the purpose of buying a long standing and successful business. the whole point of paying much more, than simply renting a shop house and growing on your own. most buy to retain the name and good will of past reputation

and customers.
though the udon expat community isn't really known for continuing patronage, simply on a name. tend to follow the management and cooks around town, at least myself and my peers.
name change on the thread may be appropriate also...........since reincarnated under different name.

May I suggest a change of headline to this thread for a sense of fair play , something in the line of ' disagreement at Nobi's

I was there yesterday at maybe lunchtime ish, I joined Nobi and his friends for a short while as they where eating to talk with him. Nobi was eating and so where some of his friends one having the dish in question, to me all was well and service good as normal at that time of being there so no worries.
However a member of this forum and a sponsor did not see eye to eye and words where said on an unfortunate incident, I would stick my neck out and say a one off and not to be repeated. I don't know any of them but ask them to try again as the outcome could work out differently now.
I know they have said their last on the subject and respect that but we have all made a wrong turn now and then and pushed it too far only to regret it.

I tend to agree with most of the previous post's, most Thai business's suffer with staff problems and everyone can have an off day so let's give Celtic Yard a chance to find their feet.
Gotta say I disagree with the whole "If it ain't broke don't fix it" ethos, sure keep the main things that made the business successful but surely a new owner would want to put his own personal stamp on the project. In fact if he didn't it would tell me the he has no real passion for what he's doing!
I feel the new owners are trying with the very novel idea of Thai lessons and new menu items so my vote would be for, sorry about your bad experience wghthai but lets give them a chance.
The wife has some business in Centra tomorrow so I'm hoping to pop in for lunch a Celtic Yard while I wait and give it a try myself. ++)(*

so confused...went to nobi's for german food...not called nobi's and he ain't german

. well seems more of a personal problem, as no one else seems to have had a problem . as beatus said keeping the name is no garentee of keeping the customers, nobi had plenty of friends that went to see him, not just for the food but to see him too. and is it not better to deal with the owner about issues rather than having a go on the forums. certainly would have a better outcome and more constructive. as a side note , very few people just employ staff, so remember lads your not dealing with thai staff, your dealing with someones wife so tact is needed at times , me i can take it...except if you upset my wife. lucky she has only been upset by one english guy in 6 years, and lucky for him his age stopped me from just smacking the arrogant fool in the mouth. so lets hope the issue is sorted in the correct manner with both parties happy with the outcome. :handshake:

what does the OP want from writing this post? Quite nasty me thinks. He should have simply not gone their again -or go back and talk to the owner -basically registering a customer complaint.
I have been in to this place recently and its nowt to shout about - but its not terrible either.

see thats what i call constructive, now celtic can think " what can i do to make it something to shout about" , how can he improve his game ? what are customers missing ? where can he get the best products for his customers ? . what avantages does he have ?. a lot more planning to run a thriving business. been running one for years and you just can't sit back and expect no compitition ,soi sampham has some good eats which is good for customers, better choice, better prices. anyway good luck celtic....don't let one bitter person ruin your day

getting something off his chest probably, the aggrieved customer has ways and means of getting the message across as does the happy customer, for every unhappy one theres always happy ones, rough with the smooth in the hospitality game.

just need to get a good balance.

From my reading of it, the OP is simply passing on his own experience in this place....something I'm sure everyone is glad of. He said that it was his first time there and didn't even know it had changed hands so I doubt very much there is any personal gripe intended, as so often is the case.
I think all posts regarding eating houses are constructive, both good and bad.

I agree, and welcome all comments, positive or negative, as any business should also. They (business) can decide if valuable input, and respond or adjust accordingly..........or NOT.
Others, past and prospective customers, can read between the lines, and decide how it would effect their dining experience and carry on.
