I think there is an obvious reason why so many Bars - restaurants are closing down , Not enough Farangs in town to spend money, but saying that even in the heydays of Pattaya in the 80's and 90's when the were plenty of Brits. Germans , Scandinavians and Yanks spending money - you would still see plenty of bars open one minute and closed the next , I honestly don't know what the secret is.....

Along with what they offered up is total crap, an targeted toward a market, that doesn't exist.

Think 'family oriented retirement village'...........those foreigner managed venues that target that market, seem to succeed, and very nicely at that. ++)(*

From my views most do not have a clue about consumer bases business, they have never run one before and do not know how to encourage customers, any one who complains is treated with disdain and bully boy tactics, if they knew how to run a business customer complaints are taken seriously and measures are taken to improve your business, clearly not here, as they have never run any business before.

On a personal note , I have made a few investments over here only what I could afford to lose , fortunately I have not lost anything ( Yet ) but the last thing I would get involved in would be the Bar - restaurant scene, firstly I have no experience at it and secondly it looks like a lot of hassle to me , as I have said there is simply not enough customers to go around in Udon , unless it suddenly becomes the Las Vegas of Asia , and as I have stated on many occasions many Bar - restaurant owners and in particular the Brits make you feel like you've just sat down in their living room after pissing on their carpet , a lesson in hospitality is in need for many bar owners with a fledgling business

I suspect most that opened and failed miserably, had absolutely no business, let alone bar business experience when taking on their en-devour, or did any market research.

No plan, best plan to fail......

Once again I know this will infuriate many members , but sometimes I'm glad some bars - restaurants fail in certain areas ,if you take where I reside it's a very rural area with a small community , market and a local temple , I would absolutely hate it if a couple of farang bar - restaurants opened up and destroyed the towns character that has probably stood for centuries , I wish some farangs would just leave towns and villages alone and blend in as opposed to trying to create another pattaya without the Sea wherever they choose to settle , I like touring new places and the last thing I want to see is ' so and so's bar Burger and chips 100 baht'

Not me.

And I don't think I ever set foot in one, in that last 10 years when out and about. Very few times I did, when first here, was very disappointed, and a WTF factor.

Only frequent 2 places here (Udon), about twice a month each, if that, Dean's now since at Nong Sim, and Steve/Mali's. I find Thais serve up western fare much better anyway......Especially pizza and burgers....

That's a sad statement in itself.

Maybe they should re-invent themselves and start catering to the Korean, Chinese, Russian, Arab and so on tourists.

I think there is definitely a market for faring bars in udon, but maybe not as many as we currently have. My biggest problem is how crappy most of them are though. I'd rather sit at home with a nice drink versus a dirty smelly tiny bar with no customers and no atmosphere. However i'd rather be in a decent bar with a bit of nice music, a nice clean environment with some good banter than sit at home.
