Yes but it is still potted history, never a mention of the unspeakable regarding their history, assignation of Kings, declaring war on friends etc and all the hardship endured by the masses because of the intolerance shown by the bosses and elite. hell they will not even allow a King of Siam to b e shown here starring Yul Bryner, which was a reasonably accurate portrayal of Siam then with some comedy thrown in . A little artistic licence but not accepted by Thais I wonder why .

If you know anything about Thai history you will know that the portrayal of the King was wildly inaccurate. The idea that a farang school marm can have any influence on an absolute monarch is laughable.

It is akin to someone like Sydney James (Carry On films) portraying Henry V.

I am not talking about acting ability but the idea/message Anna portrayed in her book and how she was seen as a woman of great importance in the film.

This is an interesting post, one does n ot think for one minute that the King and I was ever in fact a true representation, but as Thailand fails to see the humour , it bans it . Their history regarding the dress is quite interesting, what they do not teach the children regarding history is certainly even more interesting, they fail miserably to mention in depth from 1914 to 1945 , when asked for a reson, it was because they did not really want the children to know. That may well have changed since the broad take up of the Internet.. Other factors are not explained but anything they consider good is, the late King for example his actions and deeds are widely shared , but not those of Thai Governments which is a shame as any country can be viewed on the success or not of its Government .
Going back to Historical dress is nice but these days it is impracticable apart from historical occasions and tourists.

And now, well, you seriously can't believe anything. Can only imagine how it will be changed over and over and written about 50 years from now. Even some wiki articles I've read, that I lived through are a total farce. Still doing the political spin of lies.

Sort of like all the 'base on true story or actual events' movies. Most not even close.

Ummm history. Yes. written by the victors the way they want it .... I wonder how the Libyan civil war will be recorded in 50 years time. I predicted the outcome to my son in the first few months. Iraq same, you cannot force democracy on a country, you have to learn it by experience. Some countries learn faster than others, all down to culture and a stable, somewhat honest bureaucracy helps.

Thai dress - yes, seen quite a few school kids wearing it at summer school and the staff (well, girls) at BigC also. Not quite the original, because there chests are severely over dressed compared to 200 years ago....
