Four girls under 18 were among 10 females allegedly providing sex for customers of an Udon Thani karaoke bar raided on Thursday night.



Officials of the Interior Ministry’s Department of Provincial Administration conducted the raid on the Muang district club known as Tor Yai on Soi Pracharat.The bar is believed to belong to the wife of a police senior sergeant major assigned to Muang Udon Thani. Her name has not been released.



Involved in the 11.50pm raid were Ronnarong Thipsiri, head of the department’s investigation and suppression division, Mana Simma, its legal adviser, Udon Thani deputy governor Pramote Thanyapeud and Pol Lt-Col Supat Thamthanarak, chief of the Department of Special Investigation’s anti-human trafficking division.
They found a 16-year-old and three 17-year-old girls among the bar’s 10 female employees.Officials allege that customers paid a fee to take them off the premises for sex. A schoolteacher’s complaint to the Ronnasit Foundation for Woman and Child Human Trafficking Victims about a female student working at the bar prompted the raid. The student was among the four underaged girls found in the raid.Ronnarong said officials would charge the owner with human trafficking, procuring women for prostitution and running a service business without a permit. The governor will be asked to order the bar closed for five years. Supat said he would ask the DSI to take over the case from Udon Thani investigators since a local policeman could be linked to the bar. All 10 alleged sex workers were interviewed by a multi-disciplinary team at Udon Thani Children’s Home to determine which ones required protection and rehabilitation.

No surprises, years ago stories were going around of older gentlemen ( Thai ) driving around villages, seeing a beautiful young lady, purchasing them, after two to three years or when girl became pregnant, throwing them out to fend for themselves. Young female members of Thai families are still considered to be a cash cow as it were, boys are just let to roam freely but girls well they can make money !!

Sadly I wish you were both right, but that story was told to me by my then Thai Mother in law about her neighbours daughter and happened in my local village and at a school I was teaching in, where a very pretty M2 girl was whisked away to get married to an old Thai man. So before you discount as rumours as most of your news comes from bars, just ask yourself a question why would I write lies. I know many of you do but I prefer to tell the truth no matter how bloody unpalatable it is .

Seems time for many to get their heads out of their posteriors and rejoin the real world.

Yes, when I first got here, sin sot was paid for marriage, to some diverse aged 'couples', though legal w/parents consent. And not just simply driving around a village, unknown to anyone ....and .... "oh see's cute, how much you want for her".....as if on an out and about and seeing a bunch of bananas on display.

Your post implied, there's a friggin' 'for sale sign' for daughter in front of the houses, and any stranger can drive by and make an offer. Considering you state MIL....guessing quite some time ago also. Though surely the sin sot, still in practice, can still buy a wife from the villages. But surely not a total stranger driving around looking for anyone's teenager daughter.

Again sadly one would want to believe what you said, but in reality that occurred too often in the distant villages, over the last decade almost ended and sin sot is paid still although to a far lesser degree. There more like transactions legally binding especially in the Thai Chinese world . But the clash of cultures shows through . The Chinese are far more organised and sophisticated about marriage especially here, two business empires joining together very tightly controlled .
Oh well always felt the Thai way a tad odd with the headman sanctioning co-habitation occasionally as opposed to a Amphur legalisation .
