i think butch is having a mid-life crisis , thats the
sense i get and im a very empathetic fellow. we
forget the holiday season can be one of turmoil

He is occupied with with winning, or chasing, prizes in local running/fast walking events. This was also evident in the last weeks of the Talk too if anyone noticed.
