Thanksgiving Day Dinner

Post by jingjai » Mon Nov 23, 2009 7:43 pm

Dieter, of Dieter's Rauch Kate Restaurant, Adunyadet Rd. (next to Aussie Bar), 081-263-9011, will be offering Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Thursday the 26th.
Cream of corn soup, salad, bread, turkey dinner with all the trimmings, nuts & pumpkin pie. :D 345 baht, if you want another 100 grams of turkey, add 100 baht. A fair price, IMO. Knowing Dieter, you won't go away hungry or be disappointed.
I know he is getting booked up for the evening, but he will be serving from 12 noon on...
Telephone Dieter for further details.

Candied Yams..?
Dunno? But, Dieter has tins of candied yams for sale in his deli/grocery section. Also, he will be making up 450 gram containers, for sale, of pureed pumpkin pie filling, just add your own spices and put in a pie pastry shell and bake.

I make a great (I'm so modest) Hawaiian style sweet potato/yam bake:
A kilo or so of cooked mashed sweet potato or yams.
12 ounces of coconut milk.
10 ounces Crushed pineapple.
A mashed banana or two.
Six ounces orange juice. A little dark rum never hurt.
3-4 ounces butter.
Brown sugar, nutmeg, ground ginger to taste.
Mix it all up, put in a baking dish or pan, and bake for 45-60 minutes.
Of course all these ingredients are variable. We kitchen geniuses, cook more or less on instinct ;) .

do my 'candied jams' a bit different. basically canned yams, but not mash them, lots of butter, lots of brown sugar, then maybe bit cinnamon/nutmeg and something else if around. let it bubble away, tasty treat. keep an eye on it, low simmer, uncovered, for reduction of water, and make the sugar gets mixed well and doesn't stick and burn. ++)(* ++)(* couple stirs gives it a nice mix, and will break off some smaller yam pieces, adding to flavor. some pieces sweet, some more yam flavor.................wow, have to look who sells. 8-)

almost forgot, discard what ever they consider 'candied sauce', rinse off and start with just the jams. :D
