There are lots of great steak houses in Bangkok but you will pay a huge sum for the pleasure. You can get steak from all over the world that could rival any steak house in the world. However, to get this quality in Thailand you must pay around $100 - $200 per person (Food only). So I would have to agree with other posters that it is not practical to get a good steak in Thailand.

A''good beef steak'',to my liking,has to be a minimum 1" thick,medium rare,not rare or raw and be easy to chew.I have never experienced that in Thailand,not even close!

I agree with both of you. In my earlier post, the point I was making is that I haven't found a good steak in a restaurant in Thailand. However, I have purchased some good sirloins at the French-Thai butcher shop next to the Prince Circle. When the steak looks well marbled, I let the woman know how thick it should be cut. I like a minimum 1" thickness like Stan. She always starts to begin her cut at about one cm. I keep telling her to cut the steak thicker and she slowly moves her knife a little further and further over until she finally reaches the correct thickness. She gives me that look that says "crazy farang" (with a smile) and slices the steak for me.

My wife cooks it outside on one of those small charcoal cookers, and serves with a baked potato, some vegetables, grilled onions and a cold beer. It's the only great steak dinner I can get in Thailand (without paying $100 - $200).

I took the missus to this place on Thursday. Very, very poor.

The service was 'ok' (the women were better than the guys).

The atmosphere was typical Thai 'hi-so'. Lots of spoilt kids running around as if they owned the place. Tables being dragged across the floor to make large banqueting tables. Harsh lighting. Tacky décor and furniture.

We ordered a Caesar salad each. It tasted better than expected, but why would you put raisins in it?

For mains, I ordered the rib-eye steak with red wine sauce. The steak was way too thin and tasted 'plasticky'. The red wine sauce was more like red wine vinegar. The garlic bread was so full of sugar it was inedible. The chips were fine.

The missus ordered the lamb (which arrived before she was even half way through her salad). The meat was crap. It was overcooked rubbish.

The steaks I've had at Nobi's or the Bookhouse are way better than the crap served here. I said to the missus that a few people had posted how good it was. She said that they had been in Thailand too long as they obviously can't remember what good food is any more.

or some will stick anything down their neck simply because its cheap . ** ** ive kinda given up getting a decent steak in thailand. everyone ive tried has been a major disappointment . gotta be the scrawny cows or the fact they eat mud 9 months of the year . british beef steers are fed a specific diet to not only improve the taste of the meat but to gain relatively rapid weight . they are killed as soon as they reach maturity , usualy 2 years , and are slaughtered with as little stress to the animal as possible, ensuring a relative tender piece of meat . not so in thailand i imagine . :
