So that's what they are. Couldn't get much sense out of Mrs N which isn't unusual. Are they seasonal? We normally come here at Xmas & I've not noticed them before

We had lunch at a restaurant in the Terminal, Korat today. We shared a kind of spicy tomato soup, chicken wings and spicy noodles with pork and vegetables.

I had them for the first time in Roi Et last year. As Shado suggests only eat the black ones. The yellow and red ones are very sour.Shado wrote:Here are some maak mao/luuk mao fruit that Mrs. S brought back from the village today. The black ones are sweet the red ones are semi-sour and the yellow ones are damn sour.

Shado, my wife says the corn and coconut dessert is ขนมเปียกข้าวโพด (kanom piak kaowpoht). It is her understanding that you will not find this dessert often outside Phu Thai areas. She can make it. Again it is a few inches in height with corn in a coconut paste wrapped in a small cornstalk leaf. Delicious.Shado wrote:Not something I'm real familiar with Khun Noodles. Mrs. Shado can't completely pin them down either. I'm familiar with a steamed coconut dessert (khanom) called takoh (ตะโก้) that sometimes has corn in it but it's not a main dish. Might be able to identify it with a bit more information.Noodles wrote:I am trying to picture those two items..? If this is off base, Phousy656 is gonna have to help us out.

Re: What did you have for lunch today?
Interestingly enough, many Thais enjoy eating the sour fruits along with nam bpla, chili and salt or with phrik glua (chili, sugar & salt) the same as used for the green mango and green guava. The husband of one of Mrs. Shado's close friends loves eating the sour red and yellow fruits. I'll stick with the black ones though.I had them for the first time in Roi Et last year. As Shado suggests only eat the black ones. The yellow and red ones are very sour.
Here is a photo of how they look on the tree.

Ahh yes. We are familiar with that khanom and Mrs. S. makes it occasionally. The ingredients for kanom piak kaowpoht and kanom takoh are similar but the preparations are a bit different. Thanks for clearing that up Phousy656. Khun Noodles can sleep peacefully now.
