I'd rather sit at home with a nice drink versus a dirty smelly tiny bar with no customers and no atmosphere. However i'd rather be in a decent bar with a bit of nice music, a nice clean environment with some good banter than sit at home.
Decent bar nice environment clean ,banter good good scoff get yourself to Fuzzy Kens
Can't disagree with that Dezzer. I've known Fuzzy and his bar for 8 years or so and although he gets some stick on forums, it's very difficult to argue your point and it's a top location, foods sound, beers cheap and banter all good.

Those that do make a go of it are as stated normally outside of the two largish bar complexes, possible because they have to try a lot harder to entice and therefore keep customers. There used to be one or two in both places that were reasonable but the girls got greedy and so put of many customers plus the influx of LB which to reb blooded male is a huge turn-off ( unless you are Japanese it would appear ).

Lack of any business sense , is also a deciding factor again those that stay the course are usually business savvy.
It is sign of the times with the decline in the projected customers as other towns across the country are ramping up tourist locations , that the downside for Udon is going to be complete lack of on some occasions accessibility as the town centre has got so congested just a visit to the bar area is a journey from hell unless you go in the day or after 8pm at night . Walking down Soi Sampan is a nightmare with tables / chairs/ vendors/motorbikes occasionally and accumulated rubbish adorning the footpath.

Fuzzy's being one of the originals, though doing much better now than when across from Aussie Bar on Falang Alley.

As stated before I have visited Fuzzy Ken's on a few occasions and would recommend it , nice Pie , Mash potatoe peas and gravy , and A good value Full English in the morning ( though the Tea could do with being a tad stronger for a refined palate such as mine ) , Last time I got chatting to some other Farangs there in a friendly atmoshphere , I like the place ++)(*
