well now you SAY that but an awful lot of those places want to try and charge you 150B for a baby's portion of
fried rice? i've started eating out on soi katuhy (or rather around the corner, facing the college, there are more cook to order
places there) i get two heaping plates of thai food, a fried egg on top of each plate, complimentary ice water for a grand total of 70 baht. i can barely finish it it's so much food. and the people are NICE and seem
to appreciate my business and they SMILE. pad thai, graprow gai whatever you want. there are a FEW farang restaurants that offer specialty dishes that are good value for money but honestly it's very hard to beat SOME of the local proprietors who want to work and also want your business.

yes, i'm not interested in paying 100 baht plus for breakfast either. it would also be nice to find a cup of black coffee at a reasonable price.

another place that actually is in the downtown area is next to mitraphap hotel, and those few hair salons
a few doors down from mojo's. that side of the street. it's like they have a little karoke shop adjoining or in the back? you'll see a restaurant sign with menu items out front. friendly people who welcome you and are
eager to prepare food? very reasonable prices. i mean places like the carrot shop at preecha are good but open at 5-6pm. these other places are open at 8am. even the food court at the centrun is getting to be
a hit-and-miss experience. have to break the camera out. words alone don't help with location much. :

I'am 34 years old thai, lives in england for over 20 years. I have also been in a pub trade for almost 10 years,I have a personal licence to sell or supply alcohol or to authorise the sale or supply of alcohol in a accordance with the licenwsing act 2003.
I'am also a chef for almost 10 years, I have worked in many resterant across the u.k.
some of you might know it The Reads Resterant (Chef de partie) The Eastwell Manor ( commis chef) The Crab and Winkle ( Sous chef),and mamy more.
I also had the honour to cooked for few well known faces.
I'am a fully qualify GCSEs in catering,Level 2 Diploma in professional cookery by ASET, Food Hygiene Certificate,BTEC ND in professional cookery.
Now I would like to take my knowlege home, so please look out for me, as i'am very excited to be in UDON.

To be a success doing 'western' food here, it seems you'll have to do food to a reasonably high standard really cheaply. Whatever you do it will always be either to expensive or 'not like back home'.

I hope you do manage to meet those 2 essential standards, because I'm sick of moaning about expensive food that's not as good as back home!

My wife whips up a breakfast of eggs (scrambled/fried) toast, ham or sausage, sliced veg, coffee -- in the time it would take a lazy bastard to open his gate and fire up the putt putt -- at half the price you'd pay to drive several kilos ...

It really isn't too difficult. And you might just love her a little bit more for her effort.

Unless you're just out after something to whine about. If that's the case, it might be worth the trip.
