I grew up in a area of Missouri that was populated by folks primarily of German origin. Married one of them. Was introduced to German food that I had no idea even existed. Dinner at her grandmother's house was always an adventure featuring "old country" preparations. Wonderful stuff! Her grandfather and father made wursts, all kinds of wursts, all fabulous! I honestly miss those homemade sausages from times past.

As Missouri is the Show Me State, they showed you real good about sausages, and tasty ones to boot. 55

Wifey # 2's father had deep German roots, Lancaster County / Amish territory, and the one I couldn't get past looking at to eat was 'souse'.

I've eaten and enjoyed lots of souse/sülze (head cheese) which is sort of an aspic/terinne made from boiled pig's head (or other parts). It's probably something you have to grow up eating to really like. It was common in our area. Have not eaten it for ages but it was great with crackers or rye bread. I've never tried to make it myself but may take a notion some day to do so.

Not much, most Scandinavians settled in the northern tier of states; Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, the Dakotas etc. California, Washington and Texas also have a large Scandinavian population. Missouri is sort of in the middle of the fifty states, with a much higher percentage of German, English and western European early settlers.

The total population of Scandinavians in the U.S. is less than 4%.

Yes , still watching Little House.. , and there are a few Scandinavians pop up in some episodes, well 1 was in for many series of course, but further towns had a Scandi population.

I am really enjoying the way of living in that Era...gunslingers, bandits,the merchandise on offer, food, the working day. how they lived and earned a living, some hardship,the transport, the booze, Ice storage, and the way the Country Doc doubled as a Vet, thats the attraction in all fairness.

Brits,Germans, Irish also pop up, along with those from the deep south, racism popped up too.
