Sophie's Bistro
Location: Old Mojo's, so parking shouldn't be a problem with Central Plaza right around the corner, though I'm always lucky, and get a spot across the street. AC or outer deck if wanting to view Udon life passing by.
Peter (the Greek
) and another gent, apologies, as forgot your name. Now Open, though I did my Sunday at home pig out brekkie, so only popped in to chit chat w/Peter. Don't know if full menu or any is available, but I think so. Grand Opening, "Ides of March" maybe..."Et tu, Brute".
If wanting to sip a few or more, chalkboard special, buy 2 Lg Leo's get next 1 Free ++)(*
Took the liberty to snap a few crappy pics of the huge wall menu, and looks like we may yet get a decent Greek / Pizza / Italian / Sandwich shop, along the lines of my Philly upbringing. OK, they called it a 'Sub' instead of a 'Hoagie'......... they're forgiven....
Menu looking good, and peeked at the kitchen set up, very nice. Pizza pans...........yea, they really are 16"
Can't wait to sample, as Peter never disappoints. Also Thai fare for the better half, if not a ding dong farang food fan.
Much better view of menu here:

What is the common denominator in the majority of these latest recent closing's? Could it be the location? Could it be the difficult parking???
Why are the places along the Ring Roads, and a little bit off the Ring Rds., eg: T-Bar, Casper's Road House, Nok's, T.J.'s, Papa Farangs, Chris's Place, Los Amigos, New Fiddlers Green, Tap House, etc., doing just fine? Could it be because there is not a lot of traffic congestion, and there is E-Z parking available?
Could it be that the majority of resident ex-pats are getting sick and tired of the hassle of driving down to the central area, and then when one finally, gets there has to drive around to find parking? Especially at night time.
I wonder if anyone, Government or Private Enterprise, has ever done a demographic study of where residents ex-pats, and upper middle class Thais reside? That is where I would open a restaurant.
Why aren't there any decent places like Pizza Company, Sizzler, etc. at the Outlet Mall, or the Home Pro Center? What about a Villa or Tops at one of those two places?
So many unanswered questions, and I know even in my wildest dreams...I will never receive a logical answer.
Anyway...Good Luck Sophie's Bistro!

I think they'll do great there. As an alternative to those who want to go out, in the central area with wife, not at night markets, but not soi sleaze either, or CC at Fuzzy's (a fine venue in it's own genre), but not for everyone.
Close enough park once and do night market, Central Plaza, sit in comfort and watch life go by. Especially if simply dropping off the family / clan to shop, and get a quick munch or sip a few while they are doing their thing...especially if hating shopping with the family, for whatever reason, as much as I do ++)(*
Now I, you have a place to sit, chit chat, as a pleasant crew there.

Re: Sophie's Bistro
I hope they do "great there". I've wished them luck.
Upon further thinking though...I was under the impression that the old Mojo's, Horsehoe, and Steve's Bar (all former tenants of that block is shop houses), had to leave that block of shops, because the owners wanted to renovate, and make bigger, better, and ultimately more expensive. Of course, nothing's happened yet...

Re: Sophie's Bistro
Don't know about City Lodge, but leaving Big Sausage was a no-brainer, for the reason leaving, and had nothing to do with actually 'restaurant business'. Family comes first and foremost.
He hasn't entirely left CC .... yet, as having more character than that, and wouldn't leave the owner out to dry without a cook.
Yes, met the owner the other day, pleasant guy, and knew before posting Peter wasn't the owner, also didn't state he was. Galee kind of gave that impression, and easy mistake. Owner had a chuckle when reading Galee's post......... oh crap, the place is yours (Peter).....
