Sad..........very sad...........
n order to promote tourism during the tourism high season, the cabinet agreed on Tuesday to waive visa fees for tourists from 19 countries as of December 1 until February 28.
Tourists from 19 countries which include Andora, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Mario, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan need not have to pay the 1,000 baht visa fee when they apply for a visa at Thai embassies or consular offices.
In the meantime, the cabinet agreed to reduce fee for visa on arrival at immigration checkpoints for tourists from the 19 countries above mentioned.
The two measures are expected to increase tourist arrivals by over 357,000 during the three-month festive season, generating revenue amounting to 28,703 million baht. They will help create over 62,000 temporary jobs and increase the government’s tax revenue by about 1,200 million baht.

Chinese tourist arrivals in Thailand down by 70%
except for the hotel i stay in in bkk which is mostly full due to its high volume domestic traveler location, all other hotel i have stayed in are mostly empty and have been for at least a year or two. even during major thai holiday periods. chinese tourist dont stay in hotels i frequent. nong khai, Vientiane, udon thani, aranyprathet, sadao to name a few. put it this way i never book in advance and have never arrived at a hotel and been told that it is full, sometimes the bkk hotel is full awaiting departures and i have to wait till after check out time and cleaning but i still always get a room. i only ever stay in hotels/guest houses not in condos, apartments etc.

exempt from the fee of 1,000 baht
TOT should pitch this boon to tourists as "Short-time 1/3 off!"
Clear, concise, to the point.

"BANGKOK – The Bank of Thailand is voicing concerns about the impact of the government’s crackdown on “zero dollar” tours after a significant decline in the number of Chinese tourists in October, says a senior central bank official.
The zero-dollar clampdown, which came into force in late September, and higher visa-on-arrival fees dealt a significant blow to October’s foreign tourist arrivals, said Don Nakornthab, senior director of the Bank of Thailand’s macroeconomic and monetary policy department.

re scamming the chinese, wouldnt be thai if they didnt crap in their own nest, it is an important part of thai culture. i think it must be taught to them by the monks from an early age, or by some other influential character. not the first time they have done it either. wont be the last
