Relax Place

An old favorite, I’ve not visited in a while, as I got tired of swatting flies, apparently not alone in that thinking. They have upgraded the dining experience, by enclosing the main dining area with glass and ac, to compliment the already enclosed dining area. Still have al fresco if wishing to dine outside in the courtyard. It’s a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere to enjoy their inexpensive menu offerings, which has been rearranged, but the same great value for baht.

This visit, I went with my usual, pork steak and salad, super sized, 69 baht, consisting of 2 pork steaks and nice salad, dressing on the side, non requested. Have option of chips or salad. Smaller version is 49 baht. I was starving, as out and about in traffic hell today, so complimented that entrée with onion rings, 29, one of the best version in UT, along with nice order of garlic bread, 29. Ree went with the Mama noodle thing, pork / veggies mix. 49 baht. Washed down with bottled water, total check bin 190. Leaving stuffed with no complaints.

Seating is comfortable enough for short visit, as wood chairs and tables where we dined. Non intrusive music, along with prompt and courteous service puts it back on my regular stop list. Well attended for a 1:30 ish munch, so guessing, many others are quite happy with the new addition of glass walled dining area. It runs east to west, so should be fairly sun free.

If image shack co-operates, I’ll post a couple pics, or if I really get ambitious, I’ll resize and use upload feature.

Well worth a visit, and as soon as I figure out exact location, I’ll edit this, or maybe someone else will beat me to it.

Went today at opening time. 11am-9.30pm.TW says avoid coming here about 4pm as loads of schoolkids descend upon the place.
Beer drinkers,large Leos 70,Heineken 90,Singha 80.ice 10 baht,Spy cooler 49,coffee 20.
Some food options for you Joey1957.

Mushroom or Corn soup 29 baht,Onion rings 29 (6 pieces),Garlic bread 29 (6 pieces),American fried rice 49.
As stated by LA,Pork steak small 49/large 69 and comes with sweetcorn, carrots, chips.Pork chop steak 99/129,Salmon fish steak 149/169,Mackerel fish steak 129,Cabanara 59,Spicy NZ mussels salad 129.
Plenty of choice for TW's with spicy salads 49/69,green curry 79,spicy raw prawns 89 (10 prawns),chicken basil with egg 69,Spicy beef salad 149.
More extensive menu than our other eating hole Faroh House but similar foods on offer. The Beef is Thai/French.We like to order same dishes and compare with Faroh, maybe slighly biased that we prefer the spicy prawns and the spicy beef than at Relax. Also the onion rings here are much thicker than there but first time for me here and left bloated, excellent value for money, prompt service.
We did order the chicken basil and were surprised they included mushrooms in the dish,a first for both of us.The garlic bread is better than Faroh in taste and value.

On a sidenote, when leaving to head back into town noticed about 150 metres on the right a place called Lemongrass Restaurant that was advertising lunch buffet 11am-3pm at 129 baht so will try and report at a later date about that place.

So overall impressed with Relax, shame no umbrellas if want to dine outside and you have to duck when entering as the picture shows a stringy plant hanging down.Hate to think that Roy could get entangled in that if he ever tries the place :o

Joey1957,go and enjoy ++)(*

I agree 100% that the food is very good, that's why Harmony Bar works together with relax for our weekly buffet ;)

If's the same place I thinking of it is named Relax 39 (orange sign) and is the original. Has been open for maybe 4 or 5 years, Relax Place come along after. Not sure if same ownership remains, but heard tell that Relax 39 open Relax Place.

Welcome to the forum Super T. *****^^
And as Super T says, I think the one at NPJ, Relax 39, is the original and has been there for years. I think it was one on the first places I ate in Udon some 8 - 9 years ago! They then opened the air conditioned restaurant some time after, which is still great value and just down the road for me. ++)(*
