Yes but to clarify and to avoid exaggeration it was not a punch. It was a headlock with open hand shoved into the face. No injuries.

it's the proprietors responsibility to make sure his customers are happy, and smoking laws obeyed. if they ignore to do that, i ignore to stop in.

avid non smoking, but understand it's a brutal habit to quit, if wanting. one reason i didn't go to Harry's was his smoking policy, to each their own. where i do go, there is indoor ac now, outdoor seating, and small smoking area. if a few seated in smoking, obviously the proprietor can't control the wind, so if wanting to sit outside will position myself and / or fan to direct any drift away, or simply sit inside. the view is the same.

smelling/inhaling smoke during a meal does take away from my enjoyment, after a meal, it's almost tolerable. would never visit a smoking only venue, just a preference, whether open air or not.

so... if you turn your back, then from your face go forwards as if to go right round the globe until the halfway point, that would be the farthest place, as soon as you go over the halfway marker it would be getting nearer....but...and there is a but.....you would be farthest away from yourself...and that would be impossible as you can never be far away from yourself, only arms length and then thats not your whole body, so would be like the donkey and the carrot.

I too am a non-smoker and I agree that smoking in a dining area is a complete no no. Also agree to a degree the that the onus falls on the proprietors of a restaurant to enforce the laws and not just acquiesce to some so as not to be confrontational for financial gain. Also a degree of responsibility must fall on the customer. If he knows the laws of the land then the key word is respect. He should respect not only the law but the diners around him especially when there are children present.

Reminds me of my old mother-in-law; she would feed my daughter in her high chair with a cigarette dangling out of her ugly gob. When my daughter got Asthma, fag ash Lil swore she would pack in the fags to try and keep the air clean. Did she? Like f**k she did, the selfish old c**t wouldn't quit for love nor money. And herein lies the problem... Smoking in the presence of others is just selfish, not taking into account the enjoyment or health of those around you.
