Ah, but you need something to do which gives you a feeling of satisfaction at achieving something. I don't think trolling counts.

Depends on the 'work'.

I've made a considerable amount of money while in Thailand, in a short time, compared to same time invested in USA with better overall results while here. Simply using brain and keyboard. Although I even too lazy to do that.

Retired = no work. Anything else, and they aren't retired. Hobby, maybe, but if on a schedule, that's work.

Yes, I'd get bored silly sitting on my arse in Thailand unless I was at an age clearly past working. Many farang oldies these days are healthier enough to work on past retirement age and choose to do that.

Not having a go at you GT but I've never understood peoples desire to keep on working and those who get bored so easily. I've not worked for the past 6 months now and not been bored once. Got a list of jobs a mile long that I'm slowly working through, got plenty of daily chores to do (gardening, housework), got loads of tv programmes and books to read, got a daughter to look after, got list of things I'm learning....Oh and a shit load of beer to be drank as well. Keep planning on getting fit but all these other things getting in the way. Didn't even mention all the places I want to visit

I'll take bored over stress any day. The only thing I wanted to do after not being a bum, and actually working, was to retire ASAP.

Plenty to do for those motivated to do. All the things working people can't seem to find time to get done, well, those retired get it done. Or should.

Cooking from scratch, especially if not wanting to pay the silly prices some of our brethren want to charge for simple things. Baking and homemade bread almost daily if a bread, sandwich eater. Cooking is so easy and no need to pay the silly prices for prepared or processed crap.

Gardening, tending to the yard, and actually one reason selling house in UT, just too big for us. One small reason anyway. Ties me down to almost a schedule.

We get out and about quite a bit. Now actually feel truly retired, as no school runs, schedule......

Nice to do what ever, when ever......or not at all. Just chill.

Give it another year Hamlay and see where you're at. I've been down a similar route although everyone is a bit different.

The problems is even with lists of jobs to do, I have plenty, the desire to drink , especially when WARM TO HOT WEATHER , as a way of cooling down in possibly an Air conditioned bar or even eatery, becomes better as one grows older and then the rot starts, more tome drinking as opposed to more time to deal with jobs/problems. Some have marriages with children but then the afternoon waiting to pick up the little one becomes a drinking session . Some run bars or pretend to, again drink is the problem, some just sit at home troll posts. Some just disappear into a dark p[lace coming out to purchase stuff and disappear again seen very rarely .
Hobbies are the way forward, gardening, or making stuff, in my book anything that does not have a culture of drinking as part of said hobby.
I have seen too many come here and die mainly through drink related problems , as they seem not to take care of themselves as well as they should. Many say why not , up to each, I say they are all old enough to make choices and do so.

But it is still sad to see people who just sit and drink all day every day and their friends in the main are just co-conspirators in lifes' rich pattern of drinkers and drunks . In my mind such a waste .
Eccentrics are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd
