after much procrastination, i finally bought a digital camera, the cheapest i could find. i managed to
get a canon powershot a-490 on sale at powerbuy for 2,490. yes, i'm afraid when it comes to cheap,
i can give even mortiboy a run for his money. anyway, had i any hair to pull out i would have been
grasping at it yesterday.i am just not a tech person. what i wish we had was like a "camera clinic"
i'm one of those people who feels that if you need a manual for something, it's probably too complicated.
anyway imagine my alarm when i saw my new camera came with a "cd" and that it was suggested
i download the software to a convenient PC soi could view my photos? it's all greek to me? is this
really necessary? i kind of know what a USB port is? must you really download special software just
to transfer your pics to the computer? as i go to the imternet cafe it is somewhat more complicated?
i mean i can figure out how to plug the cable in the camera and then the usb port? surely that's
enough? yes, there's my little unit below, i'm so proud. lookout october photo competition. *****^^

I would say no. A long time back I stopped burdening my system with what I regard as unnecessary software suites, in my case from Canon, Nokia and now SONY. My solution is to have a card reader. Take your photos, remove the memory card from your camera, slip it in to the card reader, plug that card reader into the USB slot and in my case with an external F:/ drive, my memory shows up in My Computer as "Removable Disk (K:). Double click on the letter that represents your memory card and copy the contents of your memory card over to your PC and forget about cumbersome software suites.

I would second what Alan says, a card reader is the way to go. You can pick them up cheaply and they are small enough to slip in your pocket. You could try plugging the camera directly into a PC using a USB port and may well find it works without the software anyway. Most stuff is plug and play these days but the manufactures like to keep their name in your face by using their branded but unnecessary software.

hhmmnn...well now i see this computer has acdsee photo manager and some kind of camera wizard
for importing pics? maybe this isn't going to be so impossible after all? there appears to be more
than one way to get this done which is good. thanks for all the tips? *****^^

You don't even need ACDsee to transfer photos, just good old Windows Explorer to copy from one drive to another.

If you laptop has a sim slot you can place the sim card in that..it will transfer onto your pc....the camera studio is ok but not necessary...or a USB lead from camera to PC and then the transfer photo option should come up automtically.
