Remember the fashion for Irish Theme Pubs

They were awful places - couldn't stand them , just felt like the brewerys attempt of a pub theme park

Tried that but it didn't work out to well and usually turned into a rugby match with threats bandied and revenge planned, so back to the pub to sort it all out and conduct the autopsy.

Talking of which there was a rugby team in my local pub in the good old days , they used to be on the piss at 12:00 then go and play rugby at 3 'oclock - F***in animals , but no trouble -
one of them I still see now and then - he passed a great comment when I reminded him of the good old days - ' Nah, it's all bloody exercise and energy drinks before a game nowdays ' classic <:>

Dogbolter was the dogs bollox, 6. something % if I remember. One of the original Firkin pubs, The Frog and Firkin near Westbourne Park Tube up the road from Portobello Market had a bleeding dog with a crossbow bolt through it attatched to the ceiling. They also brewed their own beer in the cellar and had a glass floor next to the bar so you could look into the cellar. A firkin excellent pub that again is no more.

Titan, the Lord Palmerstone I'm refering to is at the end of Kings Road near the Hand in Flower. I only go to essex if I am paid, ie to work, or to watch my local team Wealdstone or Chelsea, never for pleasure.

Why are people worrying bout the OAPs being unable to afford to drink and relax around Nong Sim? I understand these types are adequately catered for at places like Fuzzy Kens and the booze shops that have those concrete tables outside. Quality and exclusiveness aint cheap yer know!

That's correct... jeez, I'm thinking back to the early 80's now... I remember all the unsightly corrugated tin fencing either side of the pub, making it stand out like an oasis in the middle of the night.

Essex?? Walthamstow is E17 mate... west of Leyton High road (mind you, I guess that could be termed Essex to a proper Londoner :lol: ).

Trivia Intermission for your drinking pleasure...

The border between East London and Essex is between Brentwood (Essex) and Havering (London) and Thurrock (Essex) and Havering (London). Although Havering has an Essex postcode, it is still part of London and has been since 1965. The London boroughs of Havering, Barking and Dagenham and parts of Redbridge have Essex postcodes because they would be in North East London. The postcode for North East London would be "NE", just like "SE" is the postcode for South East London. These areas do not have the "NE" postcode simply because "NE" is the postcode for the northern city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

To be a true Londoner - A Cockney, you have to be born within hearing distance of the church bells of St. Mary Le Bow, Cheapside, in the City of London. Before the advent of motor traffic, the sound of the Bow Bells apparently reached 6 miles to the East, 5 miles to the north, 4 miles to the West and 3 miles to the south.

I, having in born in Vivian Road, E3, Bow can be called a cockney. Therefore, being born and/or coming from Havering disqualifies one from being a cockney me ole' sparra! ++)(*

And another little known but boring fact is that Stamford Bridge is nearer to the Bow Bells than Upton Park. So stick that in yer pipe and smoke it KE you uncouth youth! Apologies for any earlier essex baiting, I'm sure there are some very agreeable parts of the county and I have personally met some very nice people from there.

I've just checked the exact distance of my birth place to St Mary Le Bow - it's 1.725 Miles I guess that counts me well in - this is how said you get when your told to lay off the ciders and ciggies for a while by the quack !!
