We must have all had our favourite Pub and Bar , be it may In your home country or Thailand
My favorite in England was a pub in Kent that I visited regulary , a spit and sawdust joint , great juke box , darts , pinball , TV for sports - saturday afternoons were brilliant - first a trip to the bookmakers then up to the pub for a piss up and watch the racing , football results etc - if you fancied an extra bet the pub had it's own bookmakers -cash in hand , a good crowd of all sorts in there
from Office workers , builders , Punk rockers and a rugby team , they ruined it when the brewery turned it into a 'Bistro ' type pub

In Thailand, my favourite many moons ago was little bar next to soi yamato in Patters called 'bird bar beer ' a tiny place with top tottie :inlove:

The Churchill Arms? I think we have discussed this before - I that the one on the right hand side if you was coming down from Notting Hill Gate ? It had the Thai Restaurant at the bottom of it , I'm trying to jog my memory where the Warwick is ?

The Warwick Arms is on Warwick Road just off Ken High St. near Olympia. You're right KE The Churchill is off Notting Hill Gate on Kensington Church Street. My puggled brain thought they were near eachother. In my defence I WAS working in the Warwick about 30 years and about 30,000 pints ago.

I lived in Kensington High st for two years , I know the Warwick arms , I used to go in there a lot , I liked it on Sunday mornings - the free snacks at the bar, quite a while back me and mates went to see Iron Maiden at Earls court - we made our way up there , the was a large buffett in there for some reason , the pub soon got packed with other metal fans with the same idea, the guvnor let everyone have one plate from the buffet free - it was still a friendly little booozer ++)(*

Do you remember another Fullers pub The Britannia (long since demolished), opposite the Hammy Odeon? I also worked there and it was officially the worst pub in Hammersmith.
Whenever there was a band playing The Odeon it would be rammed before and after the gig.

As the locals avoided the place like the plague the Landlord compensated for this by allocating the snug bar to all the local nutters who had been barred from the other pubs in the manor. I only worked there a couple of weeks but we had some sort of agro every night. Happy Days.

Is this the same Weavers at the end of North End Rd? I was a regular there for Chelsea home games for a couple of seasons around 1990. We had some problems with the locals in there one evening so started using the Lord Palmerstone, The Ifield (both also sadly no more) and The Maltsters.

I agree with KE about the smoking ban and prices forcing pubs to close. Another factor is the ''Vibrant'' era that New Labour has helped to create. A lot of Londoners these days spend their Friday lunchtimes in the local mosque sticking their bums in the air rather than down their local pub opening their pay packets and sticking a few pints down their necks.

The new trend of converting shops into identikit characterless replica Wetherspoons has also helped kill off the local pub. Maybe the mods should rename this thread ''Grumpy old gits grizzling bout loved and long lost local boozers''.......mumble grumble.........

Bosco's.....germantown, (memphis metro), TN, USA. brew pub with decent food specializing in italian, wood oven at the bar, excellent pizza and pasta. always a daily special, and the bartender would let me smoke a cigar in the corner end of bar if not busy. best part, i could ride my bicycle to the place and when leaving it was all down hill. excellent ales, and special brews.

also at memphis area, cordova, the outback steakhouse when me and couple buds from work would get thirsty. 2 for 1 special, and the bartender wouldn't keep count to good in lui of better tip....scammers. ++)(*

philly it was a brit pub / restaurant, again great ales, though shit food. use to bus in the brit tourist.... *****

Blue Nose McCauley, Tam Greer, Uncle Jimmy and Bangkok Billy. RIP.

Also Jool's Soi 4 Sukhumvit when Big Dave ran it. We had some cracking good friendly piss taking and piss ups there. Getting 3 glassed when you were in the toilet and full of characters who are mainly missing in Thailand today. A true ex-pats bar.
If you don't know Jool's read Private Dancer by Stephen Leather because that is where Stephen got the idea and some of the characters for the book.
